An Invitation to the Discerning Traveler

How to spend 7 days in the Masai Mara without ever seeing another tourist bus.

Most safari companies crowd you around the same exhausted lion prides. Sundown Safaris operates on private concessions, secret river tracks, and bespoke timings. Here is how we design itineraries for travelers who hate herds.

Common Questions

Everything You Should Ask
Before You Book a Safari

Every traveller who has done both says the same thing — they wish they'd gone private the first time. Your guide focuses entirely on you. You stay at sightings as long as you want. You're never rushed by strangers on a schedule. We cap every vehicle at 4 guests. Always. For a once-in-a-lifetime trip, the answer is yes.

Kenya. The Masai Mara has the highest predator density on the continent — lion sightings are almost guaranteed. Logistics are simpler, Nairobi connects directly from the US and Europe, and the Great Migration is a Kenya event. Tanzania is extraordinary. Save it for your second trip. There will be a second trip.

Peak season (July–October): 9–12 months in advance. Shoulder season: 4–6 months. With a maximum of 4 guests per vehicle, our capacity is genuinely limited. Kenya park fees increased significantly in 2026 — clients who book early lock in current pricing. The earlier you move, the more options you have.

Kenya's safari regions — Masai Mara, Amboseli, Samburu, Laikipia — are extremely safe. These are remote wilderness areas with very low population density. No elevated travel advisories from the UK FCO or US State Department. Hundreds of thousands of tourists visit safely every year. The wildlife is the only thing that should make you nervous.

July–October is peak migration with the most wildlife activity — and the most crowds. January–February is dry season, exceptional predator sightings, and far fewer tourists — our personal favourite. June offers lush green landscapes and building migration herds at lower cost. There is no bad time. Only different experiences.

Every package includes: private 4x4 Land Cruiser with pop-up roof, certified field guide, all park and conservancy fees, full board meals, and transfers. Not included: international flights, travel insurance, gratuities, and optional extras like hot air balloon flights. No hidden costs. No surprises.

Maximum 4 guests — always. This is the Sundown Standard and it is non-negotiable. Most operators pack 6–8 into a vehicle. We don't. Four guests means every seat is a window seat, every camera has space, and your guide is completely focused on your group's pace and interests.

Every itinerary we build is custom. Our packages are starting points — not fixed products. Tell us your dates, group size, interests, and budget. We design around you. Honeymoon with a beach extension? Done. Family needing flexible timing? Done. Photographer wanting 6 hours at one sighting? Done. WhatsApp us — draft itinerary within 24 hours.

Yes — Kenya Wildlife Service increased park fees significantly in 2026. This affects every operator equally. What it means for you: book earlier, lock in today's pricing. We honour every quoted price for 30 days. Anyone planning a safari in the next 12 months should request a quote now.

Simple. WhatsApp us your travel dates, group size, and rough budget. We respond within 2 hours. A custom itinerary and quote arrives within 24 hours. Happy? A 30% deposit confirms your booking and locks in pricing. 70% due 60 days before travel. No obligation until you're completely satisfied.
